The Secret
The Secret... It recently occurred to me that certain people may not understand why my daughter wants to spend so much time with me, and so I thought I would share the secret with everyone, I believe this might work with adults as well but here it is...
Treat them with respect,
Treat them like a person,
Treat them like you would like to be treated.
Take the time to explain everything to them, all those "whys?" need answers;
Take the time to think about your answers, as it shows you care.
Spend half your time at their level of eye sight,
Spend the other half with them at yours by picking them up and holding them close.
Teach them to make their own decisions instead of making them for them or at least provide some kind of understanding as to why the decision needs to be made.
Ask their opinion, and listen to the answer.
Always take their feelings into consideration, understanding that just because they are not able to find the words to express what they feel or are thinking, that it does not mean they do not understand what you are saying or doing.
Do not lie to them.
Enjoy every moment of time you spend together as if no one was more important than they are.
Realize it is their life and their childhood and they only get one chance to enjoy it too, so have fun, and turn the phone and the computer off and spend time together,
That is the secret as best I can explain it, and even if it is a secret - feel free to share it.

Global Economic Competitiveness
I never shared this but thought I might now after the whole Clint Eastwood Commercial Brouhaha .... A few months back I met with a client from China, I was taking him to dinner in Orlando and asked where he wanted to go for dinner? He said a Chinese restaurant. I told him, it was not what he might be expecting, he said it didn't matter. So we went to a local Chinese take out place. I asked why he wanted to go there and he said he wanted to support his country.
I am not a racist and I have no issue with this even though I do not support a nationalistic mentality - however I think everyone should begin to understand what the reality is of the global economic situation. On some level every other country is the competition and on another level they are all the consumers and clients. It is time to stop the nonsense and the made up political drama... stop allowing our politicians to pander and spout nonsense that creates infighting.... it is time that we come together as a country... guess what people - socialists are not trying to take over the country, there are no communists that are going to come to power, your businesses are not getting crushed by the EPA, it is time to start looking at facts and not sound bytes.... let us start making decisions based on real information and real facts, not photo-shopped nonsense...
If we do not come together we will lose on the global stage and it will be our fault and all of the politicians fault... and it will be Fox news fault and the tea party and the occupiers and anyone who signs or wants someone to sign extreme documents like never raising taxes... we do not live in a fantasy land, we live in the real world and it means making real decisions that are not pleasant but may be necessary... let's start making this country even better than it was for you and for me and for our children, and it starts when we stop acting like spoiled children and dumb-asses willing to believe anything we are told... and it starts when we take responsibility for ourselves and our world and our economy and we stop allowing the politicians to abuse and manipulate the people of this country. Tell your politician to save the bullshit and work with everyone else in order to make this country a leader again on the world stage....
